The Feng Xin zine is a fan-made pay-for-production (p4p) project featuring contributions from artists, merch artists, and writers.The Feng Xin Zine will feature SFW pieces only. All participants must be 18+.This project is a dedication/celebration of the Southeastern god, Nan Yang, thus all pieces must have Feng Xin as the focal point, however art, merch, and fics can have other characters, especially Xie Lian and Mu Qing as these are two of his most important canon relationships and have greatly shaped who he is as a person.This is a celebration of Feng Xin and what makes him who he is, so we want to avoid darker themes and would prefer to stay in the realms of canon (pre-canon/post-canon included) and canon-adjacent/divergent AUs. Potential topics include but are not limited to: archery, sun symbolism, martial might, Nan Feng, Ju Yang, Fengshen, hair ribbon, character study/exploration, Jian Lan/Cuo Cuo, abandonment issues, Xianle trio, rivalry with Mu Qing, platonic/romantic relationships.Sign ups for the zine will be held in May. What is a zine?
A zine is a self-published booklet, usually fan-made and P4P featuring, art, short stories, and merch revolving around a central fandom, character, or ship.What is the theme of this project?
This zine is dedicated to Feng Xin, the martial god of the Southeast from TGCF. This zine is a celebration of Feng Xin, thus we really want pieces that make Feng Xin shine and focus on key aspects of him (archery, godhood, Ju Yang, etc.), important relationships (Xie Lian, Jian Lan/Cuo Cuo, and Mu Qing), and dive into what has made Feng Xin into the god he is.How many contributors will there be?
There will be 12 writers and between 30-45 artists (includes page artists and merch artists).Will there be pinch hitters?
Yes, we will select a list of 10 page/merch artists and 6 writers to be pinch hitters from the initial pool of applicants in case one of our main writers or artists drops out for some reason. We will contact each pinch hitter of their status after the selection period.Can my piece have other characters besides Feng Xin in it?
Yes! Art pieces, merch, and fics are welcome to feature other characters as long as the general focus is Feng Xin and/or his important relationships.What is the selection process like?
For writers, we will be looking for understanding of grammar/sentence structure/formatting, along with compelling characters, well-developed plot, and emotional resonance.
For artists, we are looking for overall skill and understanding of light, color schemes, composition, and anatomy.How will contributors be compensated?
It is our goal to provide every contributor with a free physical version of the zine (shipping included) along with a free digital version and digital merch. Physical merch and shipping will have to be purchased separately. This is our ideal goal, however due to the unpredictability of sales, we may not be able to fulfill that goal. However we can guarantee all our contributors will get a free digital zine and free digital merch.What happens if the Minimum Order Quantities needed for sales isn't met?
In the unfortunate event we do not get enough sales to meet MOQ, then we will refund each buyer for their purchase and proceed with the production of a digital zine, which will be given to contributors for free and offered at a discounted rate for potential buyers. This will be used to cover any start up costs, website fees, and product samples.How will mods and contributors communicate over the course of the zine?
We will be communicating through our Feng Xin Zine discord server. Please note to take part in the zine, you need to be able to communicate with mods through discord.How much of a commitment will this zine be?
Participating in any zine is a time commitment, so please ask yourself before signing up if you have the time to give to the zine, not only in creating a fic, merch, or art, but in submitting check ins and communicating with the mods. We understand sometimes things happen and you will need to drop out, hence why we have pinch hitters, however for things to run as smoothly as possible we want to make sure we have contributors who are able to fully commit to the zine and keep to the designated timeline. If you do need to drop out, notify us immediately so we can give our pinch hitters as much time as possible. Furthermore, if check-ins are ignored and you have not reached out to a mod in the designated time frame, unfortunately we will have to drop you and reach out to a pinch hitter. The final deadline is nonnegotiable.
WritersHow do I apply?
You will need to submit two writing samples during creator sign ups. Please provide links to google docs containing the pieces you wish to submit. Each piece should be under 3k words. If you do not have fics under 3k words, you can submit a snippet from a longer fic (please provide a brief summary (100 words or less) of any critical info we may need to know to understand the context of the piece). Can be SFW or NSFW. Feng Xin should be in one of your samples.What is the word limit for zine pieces?
The word limit is 3.5k.Does my piece need to be beta-ed?
Yes, all fics must be beta read. If you have trouble finding a beta, we can likely help find someone who would be able to assist.
ArtistsHow do I apply?
During creator sign ups you will submit two sample pieces that you feel are a good reflection of your current skill. Can be SFW or NSFW. Feng Xin should be in one of your samples.Are there any requirements I should be aware of?
You will need to make sure your piece is converted to CMYK for printing purposes. If you don't know how to do this, please reach out to the mods and we can help!Can I apply as both a page artist and merch artist?
Yes, you can apply as both; during creator sign ups, simply fill out an application for an artist and a merch artist.
Merch ArtistsHow do I apply?
During creator sign ups, you will submit two sample pieces that are a good representation of your artistic skill. If you've made merch in the past, you may submit images of those instead of a digital piece. Unless you are submitting two samples of merch, one submission should have Feng Xin in it.Are you looking for any specific merch?
We are open to any and all merch ideas, but some staples we would like to offer are prints, stickers, buttons, keychains, acrylic standees, bookmarks, as well as digital merch (wallpapers, emotes, printable coloring pages, social media banners, etc.)Can I submit merch ideas to the zine?
Yes, please! We are happy to hear all your ideas for merch :)Can I produce more than one merch item?
